Howard and McMillan has extensive background and experience in helping individuals, families and fiduciaries with estate planning and probate matters. Jane S. McMillan is a member of the Estates and Probate section of the Connecticut Bar Association and serves on its Executive Committee and its Charitable Giving Committee. She is also a member of the Elder Law Section of the Connecticut Bar Association, the Central Connecticut Estate Planning Council, the Greater Hartford Probate Forum, the National Academy of Elder Law Attorneys, Inc.^TM and Leave A Legacy ® Connecticut.

Charitable Giving
The firm advises individuals who are interested in creating charitable trusts or who wish to make charitable gifts in a way that provides the greatest benefit to themselves and the community. Estate and Gift Tax Planning
The firm advises clients about federal estate, gift, and generation-skipping transfer taxes; state death taxes; and federal and state income taxes that apply to trusts, estates, and their beneficiaries.

Personal, Business and Succession Planning
The firm prepares wills, revocable ("living") trust agreements, living wills, health care powers of attorney, financial powers of attorney, conservator designations, and other documents that help people and their families deal with the personal and financial aspects of incapacity, retirement and death. The firm advises owners of family enterprises and other closely held businesses.

Trust and Estate Administration
The firm is experienced in all aspects of probate and trust administration. The firm represents executors, trustees, and beneficiaries in matters involving wills, estates, trusts, and asset management. The firm uses its experienced paralegals to assist lawyers in administration matters in order to keep legal costs down.
